Thaba Nchu: Two suspects; Rampaleng Keleboe (31) and Mathale John Nkwe (21), both originally from Lesotho, appeared in the Thaba Nchu Magistrate’s court on a charge of attempted murder and possession of dangerous weapons.

This case was postponed to 23 November 2020. Rampaleng who is still admitted in hospital after he was shot in the leg appeared in absentia whilst Nkwe is remanded in custody.

They are also scheduled to appear in Dewetsdorp Magistrate court on 25 November 2020 on a charge of stock theft.

It is alleged that on the 12 November 2020, Warrant Officer Laurens Botha and his other four colleagues from Parkweg stock theft unit, were busy with their tracing work as usual when they were called to Robertsrus farm near Dewetsdorp.

The complainant informed them that 54 of his sheep were stolen and the tracks leads to Thaba Nchu. Members responded swiftly and followed the lead.

Whilst on the way, they received information that suspects are busy shooting at the farmer and the community that tried to assist the farmer. On arrival a shootout ensued between the police and the suspects.

One suspects (21) was found assaulted with a knobkerrie and sjambok and the other one (31) was shot on the leg during the shooting out with the police.

Two firearms, a 9mm and .32 pistols with ammunition, as well as 53 of 54 stolen sheep were recovered at Boesmanskop farm near Thaba Nchu.

All suspects are originally from Lesotho but stays in Zone 5 Builtfontein, in Thaba Nchu.
