Welkom: A 39 year old suspected fraudster who cheated guest houses in several towns, was arrested by members of Welkom Flying Squad on Thursday; 24 September 2020. This follows a call made via the media to trace the suspects.

Information was received by the investigating officer Warrant Officer De Wet and he contacted members of Welkom Flying Squad to follow up information at one of the guest houses in Kok Street, St Helena in Welkom.

The suspect was found there and arrested. Whilst searching one of his bags, two knives, 1 gram of Crystal Meth drugs and 1 gram of dagga to the estimated street value of R300.00 and R50.00 respectively were found. Another case of possession of drugs was pressed against him.

The suspect is wanted for cases of theft opened in Odendaalsrus, theft and fraud in Harrismith and Parkweg police stations. The suspect appeared in the Welkom Magistrate Court on Friday; 25 September 2020, on for possession of drugs and dangerous weapon and will appear again today; the 28 September 2020, on a charge of fraud and theft at Odendaalsrus Magistrate Court.

Other stations will follow suit to also charge him for theft and fraud cases at other guest houses.
Members of Welkom Flying Squad, WO James Earle, WO Molahlehi Busakwe and Const Thato Monokoane and WO Marie De Wet and media were lauded by Free State Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Baile Motswenyane for their sterling work in stopping this criminal from continuing with his criminal activities.
